About teacher

Violist Esther Kim earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Cynthia Phelps, Misha Amory, and Masao Kawasaki. She has served principal violist of The Juilliard Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival and School Orchestra, The Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra, and Tenafly High School Honors Orchestra. A winner of the Lincoln Center Young Artists Chamber Music Competition in 2012, Esther performed Handel Halvorsen’s Passacaglia for violin and viola in Alice Tully Hall. Esther was a participant of The Aspen Music Festival and School for eight consecutive summers and gave numerous performances in the Benedict Music Tent and Harris Concert Hall. She attended The Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara as a 2019 Fellow. Esther is currently pursuing her Doctor of Music at Arizona State University where she served as the teaching assistant to teach viola lessons and group classes for undergraduate students for the past two years.
