About teacher

Brad Kang is an award-winning NYC based guitarist, improvisor and composer. Originally from South Korea, his formative years were spent in New Zealand where he owes much of his musical upbringing. He was a member of 2015 edition of The University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band and was featured on the ensemble’s album Lab 2015. The track Neil by Rich DeRosa on Lab 2015 received a Grammy nomination and Kang's composition Uncertainty was featured as the closer of the record. Kang’s EP release performance for Farewell For Now at the 2017 Wellington International Jazz Festival was awarded the Best of the Fest Award by The New Zealand Jazz Awards and received a full-length radio broadcast on Radio New Zealand. Most recently, he performed at Detroit Jazz Festival 2022 with [ human music ] as the winner of its annual Collegiate Combo Competition. He has performed with distinguished artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Arturo Sandoval and Doc Severinsen among many others.
